Learn Royale is an educational tool that students and administrators can use to help assist in the learning and reviewing process. Using this application, teachers can help their students review subjects they want or need to know for a lesson. By signing up with a free account, teachers can easily create question sets and host them live as a playable game, in the style of a .io game. The main objective of the game is to capture as many yellow towers (citadels) as possible. Each time a tower is captured, the student is presented with a question to answer. Getting it right rewards them with 10 points; getting it wrong does the opposite! This gets charted on a leaderboard until the time limit is reached, at which point the players with the highest scores win. Students and teachers can also find other sets and host games in subjects they want to use. Learn royale provides an experience that students can use to understand the subject they need to know in a more entertaining and joyful way!
Students, educators, and parents can all sign up to Learn Royale for free here. Fill in your username, email, account type, and account password to create your free account (a verification email will be sent to you before creation). If you already have an account, you can sign in here. With an account, you have the ability to create your own sets, browse others, and host them live. Your sets will be readily shown on your dashboard, and you can search the entire Learn Royale community here.
Furthermore, you can see your account settings by going to your account page, where you can view and edit account information. You will be presented with several options including resetting your password, contacting support, subscribing/unsubscribing to email notifications, and terminating your account fully. More information about how your account information is handled can be found in our Privacy Policy.
Creating sets are easy. The Learn Royale question wizard allows you to make your own question sets from scratch. In addition, you can also import them in from a flashcard set. To begin creating a set, go to the initiation page where you will be prompted to create your set from scratch or import from flashcards.
To create a set from scratch, click the "Create from scratch" option, which will take you to the question wizard. Here you can write the title of your set. You can also change the sharing settings (private sets are only viewable by you, and public sets are viewable by all users). You can change the cover image of the set by clicking the large citadel icon at the top right. From there, you can choose an image or paste in your own via an image link.
The most important part of the set is the question bank! Every set must have at least two multiple choice questions with four answers each (one correct answer, three incorrect), and more questions can always be added with the " + Add a question" button. Your question sets can be about any topic, and can be used in any context. Once you have finished adding your questions, simply click the "Create" button, confirm your set details, and you will be able to see your new set in the dashboard!
If you already have some questions in the form of a flashcard set, you can create a Learn Royale set from them. Many companies, including Learn Royale, allow you to export your question sets as flashcard text for easy use across all providers.
Simply select "Import from flashcards" on the initiation page. Then, copy your flashcard text and paste it into the text field, click next, and fill out the details for your set. Once you are finished, click the "Create" button, and your set should appear in your dashboard!
After you create a set, you can always go back and edit it. Simply go to the set's action page (click on the "View Game" button from the Dashboard or the Explore page) and click the "Edit" button on the left pane. From here, you will be able to change everything about your set, from the title to the cover image to all the questions. You can add or remove questions just as you would do during initial creation. Make sure to click "Update" at the bottom to save your changes.
Students can join live games once they are hosted by a teacher. Hosting a set can be done by going to the set's action page (can be found by clicking on the set from dashboard or search page) and clicking "Host Live" on the left pane. Clicking the button should take you to the hosting page, where you can edit the settings for the game. These settings include changing the game's time limit, toggling wrong answer check (if a student gets an answer incorrect, they will not be able to view the correct answer if this option is unchecked), toggling music/sound effects, and generating a game report (see below).
After clicking the "Host" button, the game session will be created and the hosting screen will be displayed. The hosting screen includes the URL students should go to for joining the game (learnroyale.io), the 6-digit game code, and a list of the participants that have joined the game. Teachers can click on a student's name to remove them from the game if they wish to. Once everyone has joined, click the "Start" button to begin the game.
All the students names will be displayed on the leaderboard. Throughout the course of the game, the names will change in order as some students earn more points and climb to the top. At the top left you can see the game ID and the timer, which will end the game when it reaches 0:00. You can also end the game early by clicking the "End" button at the top right.
Game reports include data that is generated about the game after it ends, including whole-class data as well as specific data for each student. To create a report for a game, host it with the "Generate game report" option selected. At the end of the game, the report will auto-generate.
To view reports, go to the reports page. Reports will be categorized by when they were created. Additional information includes the set title, the number of players that joined, and the class average. To view student-specific data for the game, click on the report rectangle. A table with each student's name, correctly answered questions, total answered questions, and overall average will appear. This table can be exported as a .csv file using the Export button. When a set is deleted, reports for that set will also be deleted if the set creator and host are the same user. All reports associated with a user account will be deleted on account termination.
When a game is hosted, students have the ability to join the games and play them in real time. Simply to go learnroyale.io, enter the game code on the screen, enter your name, and click "Join!" After that, wait for the teacher to start the game.
Learn Royale is different from most live classroom review games in the sense that it is a real game, in the style of a .io game. .io games have become increasingly popular in recent years and are fairly simple to play. The Learn Royale game takes place on a virtual island, where students compete to earn the most points by answering questions when they capture citadels.
When the game begins, each player spawns into the map at a random location with a random emoji avatar (skin). To move around, a player can use the arrow keys on his/her keyboard, their WASD keys, or touch controls on touch-enabled devices. They should try to move towards citadels to capture them and get the question. Each question answered correctly gets them 10 points, and a wrong answer causes them to lose 10.
Students should always be trying to answer questions in the game. Once a citadel is captured, it will disappear but a new one will spawn in immediately, so there will never be a question shortage. At the end of the game, the player with the highest score earns first place, the second-highest second place, and third-highest third place.
